Mary Peyovich
Massage Therapist and Reiki Practitioner
I have been practicing as a body worker for over 13 years. I discovered my passion for healing after recognizing that my career in Corporate America as a business information specialist was no longer personally or professionally fulfilling.Integrative Therapeutic Massage is an evolving representation of my own journey to integrate body, mind and spirit. My fascination with the metaphysical and spiritual aspects of life first led me to the study of Reiki, a hands-on form of energy healing, where I studied with Michael Soto to become a Reiki Master/Teacher in 2001.
That same year, following a car accident and whiplash injury, I was given the opportunity to experience, firsthand, what it means to cope with a wide range of longer-term chronic pain symptoms. In part, it was my own experience with chronic pain that eventually led me to the path of massage therapy.
I graduated from the Chicago School of Massage Therapy (CSMT) in 2003 and went on to receive advanced certifications in Myofascial Therapy (2004) and Precision Neuromuscular Massage Therapy (2009). I recently completed an intensive course in Temperomandibular Joint (TMJ) Dysfunction (2014) and am currently taking coursework involving the restoration of micro-movements, which leads to improved stability and decreased pain.
As a long distance runner and a Chicago Area Runner's Association (CARA) Community Partner, I have a special affinity and passion for working with athletes and sports enthusiasts – endurance athletes in particular – possessing a first-hand understanding of common injuries and pain problems inherent with these sports activities.
Therapeutic massage, most notably neuromuscular massage therapy, enables me to channel my love of fact-finding and problem-solving from my previous career in research into a passion for helping clients uncover the "mystery" of their soft tissue pain. When appropriate, I integrate Reiki and intuitive healing work into client sessions. My goal is to for you to love the way you feel – whether that is through decreased pain and stiffness, an increased feeling of relaxation, or a renewed sense of optimism and joy and hope.
I am a licensed massage therapist in the state of Illinois. I also hold a B.A. in Music History and a Master's Degree in Library and Information Science.
I am member of the American Massage Therapy Association.
